Resumo: The yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis f. flavicarpa) presents in its fruit as main marketing characteristic of commercialization, it propagated mainly by seeds for selecting seedlings. However, it is reported in the literature that there isn’t uniformity in the germination, which can be related to the presence of numbness in seeds, which need to go through methods that overcome. Thus, the present study was to evaluate the effect of different treatments on dormancy seed break of yellow passion fruit. The experiment was carried out in UTFPR - Campus Dois Vizinhos. The experiment design was randomized blocks, it tested seven techniques to break dormancy, with four repetitions of 100 seeds. After extracted from the seeds of yellow passion fruit, will be kept for 24 hours in temperature reduction of excess moisture. Thereafter, these were divided into seven lots, each being characterized by its treatment with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) 96% for 1 minute; Sulfuric acid (H2SO4) 96% for 5 minutes; Hot water (80°C) for 5 minutes; Hot water (80 ° C) for 10 minutes; scarification by sandpaper; soaking for 24 hours at room temperature and control (without applying any dormancy breaking method). Later the treatments the seeds were sown in plastic boxes (30x20 cm) containing as sand substrate under spacing of 2 x 2 cm and kept in climate-controlled greenhouse (25 ° C, RH 85% and irrigation 5 minutes 2 in 2 hours). Were evaluated after 27 days, the emergence (%) and the emergence speed index (IVE), as well as height (cm), total length (cm), root (cm), number and leaf area (cm²) and dry mass (g), chlorophyll content (IFC). For yellow passion fruit has not proven the presence of physical dormancy in the seeds, and one should test other genetic materials to prove such a response.
