This work has as a theme the evaluation of learning in Science. The evaluation is essential to check the level of student‟s learning. The formative evaluation is a new trend that proposes to evaluate the student continuously. The aim of this study was to observe the practice of some science teachers regarding the evaluation of learning as well as ensure they follow a traditional methodology or new evaluative trends. Participants were selected randomly. They were given consent forms to the teachers in order to clarify the privacy level of this study. After teachers' acceptance to cooperate with the study, there were given to each of these, a questionnaire with ten questions of descriptive nature. It was also asked copies of teachers' assessments so we could analyze them. The participants were eight science teachers, being two from a state school in Cruzeiro do Iguaçu - PR, and six from colleges in Dois Vizinhos - PR. The data were analyzed according to Laurence Bardin content analysis and Ludke and André qualitative approach. After analysis, the resulting data was tabulated and discussed. About formative evaluation, it was noticed that the teachers did not have much knowledge of how it works, and two of the participants could not answer what it means. They all reported having difficulty using formative assessment due to factors such as students‟ lack of interest, lack of family support, very large classes, among others. Regarding the question about the difficulties that teachers have to prepare classes with practices, only one participant said no difficulties, the rest have said some, such as very large classes, lack of materials and laboratory technician. The analysis of the evaluations presented results that were expected, as most descriptive questions is not contextualized, and this kind of question refers only to memorization and does not develop the critical sense of the learner. It can be concluded that this study was of great value and it was observed that most teachers still follow the traditional standards of evaluation, giving more emphasis on the written test. There is a need to raise awareness among educators about the importance of evaluating students constantly through educational projects in a continuously way. |
