Resumo: Contamination of environments by petroleum derivatives such as diesel oil is a worldwide concern. The main form of propagation of this type of pollutant occurs by small leaks, which accumulate cause great damages to the ecosystem. The organic matter is one of the main components responsible for the structure of the soil, directly affecting the percolation of the waters. In this aspect, the objective of this work was to characterize two different substrates contaminated with diesel oil and to relate this factor to the amount of organic matter present in them and to the oil and grease content of waters that percolate through these substrates. After characterizing the substrates, through a leaching test, it was possible to show that, in addition to the influence on the pH and the chemical oxygen demand, the increase in the amount of organic matter contributed to the reduction of dispersion of the diesel oil in the environment.
