The per capita solid waste generation grows annually and, with this, it is necessary to evaluate and propose mechanisms that promote non-generation, or at least reducing the amount of waste produced. One of the key ways to achieve successfully raising awareness about environmental issues is the Environmental Education (EE). This paper proposed a methodology for informal EE, to reduce the generation of solid waste, the Araucaria neighborhood, located in the municipality of Marmeleiro - PR. First, we applied a questionnaire to the knowledge of the socioeconomic characteristics of the population worked and evaluate environmental awareness across the theme. Later, with pre - established residences, there was the weighing of waste produced. Made - up, then an environmental awareness with the sampled population, which led promotes knowledge exchange involving concepts of separation of waste at source, home composting and recycling programs. After the practice, in order to verify its effectiveness, reweighing was performed. Data were evaluated by the method of paired data, with the aid of Minitab 16. With the results, it was possible to evaluate the method presented inefficiency at a significance level of 5% and a confidence level of 95%. Despite some inefficiency, EE still remains one of the only ways to get significant results in reducing the measure of waste generated by the population. |
