Resumo: Organic foods are becoming increasingly popular due to their health and environmental benefits. The growth of the organic products market follows a worldwide trend of increasing demand for products and services that provide health and wellbeing. These are foods produced using methods that do not use synthetic pesticides, GMOs or chemical fertilizers. The techniques used in the production process respect the environment and aim to maintain the quality of the food. Thus, the product reduces the possibility of damage to consumers' health and impact on nature. The general objective of the present study was to identify the importance of organic food consumption, associated with the variables that contribute to such action. With the study it was possible to identify that the predominant profile of consumers of organic foods of the region presents uniformity when evaluated the psychological factors, as concern with the health and environment, interest for the product information and reading of the labels; and demographic factors such as female gender, age over thirty, incomplete / complete higher education and high income. It is stated that the general objective of the study was achieved, since the consumer profile of organic foods was identified, as well as the importance of including these foods in the consumer's diet, because as verified with the application of research, organic foods directly influence the health and lifestyle of its consumers.
