Resumo: The presence of frost in the various cooling systems is a problem of high relevance to the commercial refrigeration. The layer of ice that forms on the cold surface grows over time, becoming more and more dense, causing a reduction in system performance due to the increase of the thermal resistance of the layer. The process of the formation of ice crystals is very complex to be evaluated due to the different environmental parameters involved in this phenomenon, where the transfer processes of heat and mass occurs simultaneously. Through numerical simulations it was possible to determine the thickness of the porous layer of ice and the temperature of the surface of the porous layer, different types of coatings for the evaporator surface were tested numerically. In addition to presenting an analysis about the factors that influence this phenomenon, the present work also provides a comparison between the results obtained for the different types of coatings proposed. Available experimental and numerical data were used to validate the numerical model used. This work is a numerical study of the phenomenon of porous ice formation and aims to find effective methods in the growth contention of the layers of ice on cold surfaces.
