The needing for the implementation of a sustainable development model in society grows day by day. In the business context, the Environmental Management System (EMS) becomes the main tool to assist organizations to identify, prioritize and manage their environmental risks. The EMS derived from ISO 14001 has been shown to be an efficient alternative to the continuous improvement of the organizations’ environmental
performance. Therefore, this study aimed to verify the city of Londrina scenery about the number of ISO 14001 certifications and identify the main reasons that lead companies to seek such certification, as weel, the benefits and master challenges of its implementation. The research methodology was based on a theoretical research
and a survey application. The questionnaires were applied in interviews in the companies listed in INMETRO (National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality) database and were analyzed separately for better interpretation of the data. The results show that the ISO 14001 certification currently has low market
recognition and brings insufficient competitive advantage for companies. Moreover, the high cost of implementation and maintenance influence the decision-making to its implementation. |
