Resumo: Lively debates on the use of a specific environmental resource have become usual, although, as a general rule, it has not been based on scientifically collected data. The main objective of this research was to estimate the monetary value of the Bosque Marechal Cândido Rondon, located in the city of Londrina, Paraná State, under the aspect of costs involved in relation to two alternatives: releasing or not the traffic through it, towards an access path between the São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro avenues. The research was designed under the method of marginal productivity, where the production function is determined by the fuel consumption compared to the distance traveled. A statistical inference was based on the vehicle counting, by means of video recording, during the period between 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., from Monday to Friday. Using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, it was found that the sample population had a normal distribution, which allowed the use of parametric testing and also a mathematical equation obtained from the database regression. These resources were used to calculate the number of vehicles that, once accessing the São Paulo Avenue, continued along the Rio de Janeiro Avenue. Having got the distance, a monetary valuation was carried out over the two options: with and without vehicle traffic passing through the Bosque, as well as the fuel costs incurred by the vehicles to perform those itineraries. An annual amount of R$ 30.472,00 was reached. This is the cost of the service to be rendered by the Bosque for the reduction of the route between those two points.
