The number of defaulters in Brazil has increased in recent years, according to Serasa’s data, especially among young people, which has made this situation more and more worrying. Due to this scenario, access to financial education becomes even more important; however, the teaching of planning and organizing personal finance is generally limited to those who have access to higher education and also to certain courses. Thus, this study aimed to identify the perception of the students of the undergraduate courses in Accounting Sciences of IES in a city in the southwest of Paraná about their personal finances. In order to reach the objective of the research, a questionnaire was elaborated based on the research tools of Braido (2014) and Freitag, et al. (2009), from which it was possible to reach the instrument of the present study. The data collection was done through the questionnaire, applied in person to the students of all the years and periods of the three IES that offer the accounting course in a city in the southwest of Paraná. The total number of questionnaires answered is 400, of which 368 are considered valid and 32 are considered invalid. The survey results indicate that most students (87%) are monitoring their spending, which indicates a high level of control of their personal finances. They also have a conscious financial profile as most students buy only when it is necessary, they invest what they earn with their 13th salary or other types of bonuses and pay their installments on time or in advance, which shows a low level of indebtedness and default among students. It was also noticed a positive influence of the course of accounting on the personal finances of the students, however it is necessary a better approach and support on the subject by the analyzed IES. |
