The need for low cost of the final product and the demand for new homes increase the search for alternatives that are made to coincide with conventional models. Considering a model home with three standard models of coverage, two conventional and one based on the North American lightweight system has significant difference between the amount of wood needed for construction costs and the same with the timber. The variations between systems and within the system adopted interfere significantly in the amount of material and costs. The roof light North American showed a great advantage over conventional, in cost and rationalization of the wood. O fechamento superior da edificação, denominado telhado, tem a função de proteger a edificação contra as intempéries. O potencial de madeira plantada para fins comerciais aliado a novas técnicas construtivas revivem o material madeira em grande opção para soluções construtivas atuais. A necessidade de baixo custo do produto final e a demanda de novas moradias elevam a busca por alternativas que se superponham aos modelos convencionais. Considerando um modelo de casa padrão com três modelos de cobertura, dois convencionais e um baseado no sistema leve norte americano tem-se significativa diferença entre as quantidades de madeira necessária para construção dos mesmos e custos com o madeiramento. As variações entre os sistemas e dentro do próprio sistema adotado interferem de forma expressiva na quantidade de material e custos.
