Resumo: Harry Potter saga has always been and still is seen by several literary critics as a product to entertain and to get a great place in the film industry, for having won thousands of fans worldwide. However, there are some psychological aspects that have made, even implicitly, the series be so acclaimed by its audience. The theoretical-methodological study described here tries to show, through the analyses of the films The Philosopher's Stone, The Goblet of Fire, and The Deathly Hallows (parts 1 and 2), that there are some psychoanalytical points present in the adaptations that can deconstruct the stereotype of just another series for children‟s entertainment and to allow the reflection on the psychological account present in the saga. The literature review of this study takes into account the contextualization of the power of children's literature based on the studies of Bruno Bettelheim (2002) and on the children's psychoanalytic issues by Diana and Mário Corso (2006). In addition to a modest reading of Jacques Lacan‟s theory (1998), concerning the “mirror stage”, with some considerations on the “desire” and the “lack” in the children‟s growth and identitary construction. Carl Gustav Jung (2000), according to the power of the archetypes in the collective unconsciousness, and Margaret Mark and Carol S. Pearson (2001), with some notes on archetypes analyzed in the fourth film of the saga. And, finally, there is a reading of the issues related to the “uncanny” and to the “double”, as verified by Sigmund Freud (1988). Through the analysis, this study shows some possible psychoanalytical approaches in the films selected, allowing a new look at the magic saga by Joanne Kathleen Rowling.
