Resumo: This work had as its main purpose to make theoretical approximations within the area of translation of poetry, according to the theories of Roman Jakobson, Walter Benjamin, Haroldo de Campos and Mário Laranjeira, mainly. For that, selected poems were chosen from the writers Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Portuguese poet and Hilda Hilst, Brazilian poet, with their respective translations into the English language. In addition to seeking a historical rescue from the processes of translation and its relation to the concepts of language, there was an attempt to analyze the visible and existing possibilities in the materiality of the word as evidence of the poetic language during the translation act. It was verified, nevertheless, that the poetic subjectivity besides immanent and inherent to the language, resides in the very creative act of the translator herself.
