Resumo: This work aimed to develop a detailed study of the generalized predictive control method and to compare it with the proportional integral derivative control method. The work initially makes the bibliographic review of the methods covered, containing the mathematical deductions necessary for understanding and implementing the developed projects. Subsequently, a fictitious plant was defined to perform the comparisons of the control methods through the obtained results. To verify the actual performance of the controllers, both controllers were implemented in closed loop in a level control bench. After analyzing the results obtained from the controllers, it was observed that the generalized predictive control presented a better performance than the proportional integral derivative in case the systems presented transport delays, thus demonstrating their predictability.
