Resumo: With the increasing population growth, especially around the industrial poles in the country, steelmakers, mining companies, cement companies, it is fundamental to have more effective environmental policies. This is a concern that has increased in recent years, especially those involving the emission of particulates to atmosphere and affecting air quality. Currently, for the processes of capture and filtration of solid particles in suspension in the air, the industries are looking for equipment with better efficiency for the control of the environment, where they can have emission of particulate material to atmosphere, meeting the normative limits and with low operational costs . Thus, the use of local exhaust ventilation systems to control emissions in the industry is fundamental to minimize the impacts on the environment of the worker and the surrounding community. Among the equipment most used in the industries, the most important are the dedusting systems with great use of bag filters for gas cleaning. In order for the bag filter to have a low operating cost, the fabric filter must have an extended service life and a low pressure drop. Therefore, material capable of withstanding system adversities such as flow rate, temperature, abrasion, hygroscopy and sparking should be employed. In this way, this work has the objective of evaluating a polyester filter media and generate a procedure to know the saturation limit that can be used in the filtering of gases in a bag filter in any application. For this purpose, a characterization of the bag filter and particulate material collected in the dedusting system under study, filtration tests based on VDI 3926 filtration standard will be carried out, comparing new and used sleeves in different life stages. The data generated will be worked statistically correlating life with loss of load. In this way, the use of the bag filter can be developed to collaborate with a good planning of maintenance and reduction of costs with better control of the reliability of the filter elements.
