This study demonstrate the use of Reliability Engineering tools, principally the life data analysis, in the definition of locomotive turbocharger maintenance strategies, in order to optimize the total cost of maintenance and increase the system reliability, reducing the risk of catastrophic failures that can produce large impacts on trains operations. This is an applied research and can be defined as bibliographic and documentary, using maintenance records and procedures about the component (turbocharger). On the results, the study identified opportunities to review the maintenance intervals based on component failure behavior, aligned to the company's strategic planning. Through this work were defined strategies that reduce the incidence of each failure mode, as well the preventive replacement interval that minimizes the maintenance cost of the component, reducing the maintenance cost of the company. |
