After the abolition of slavery and the massive immigration of Europeans to Brazil, the ex - freedmen were unable to work because the large landowners did not believe in their potentiality. Feeling themselves marginalized and discriminated against by society, these blacks began to group together. They began to live poorly. Yet they found in a social movement, samba, a means of expression. In the 1930s and 1940s, under the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas, this rogue was soon nationalized. However, the dictatorial government getulista, pressures the rascal to assume the role of citizen, without offering basic conditions for this transformation. In the 60's, more precisely 1964, with the military coup, the trickster is revered by Chico Buarque, in some of his songs, to make a parallel between the rascal of the hill and the malandro in suit and tie. Aggravating the dictatorship and freedom of expression of the artists, Chico deepened in letters that would bother the dictatorial power and with that he would suffer persecution and many of his melodies would be censored, according to the author's own testimony and records in books, newspapers and magazines. This work intends, initially, to analyze some songs of its denominated: phase rogue. However, it will focus primarily on the analysis of songs, which, for the period, were quite emblematic and questioning, with respect to their context. |
