From the theorical point of view, the work points Opening Paths to a new conception of children’s literature, in other words, it has the delicacy to show the importance of other classic readings that are part of our literary history, both national and universal, through intertextuality. With the birth of modern society between the sixteenth and seventeeth centuries, came the status of childhood. Until then, children were seen as “miniadults” without distinction of cultural signs. Children’s literature lends itself to spread the ideology of that dominant bourgeois class. On this way, this didactic pedagogy is still lasting until the present day. In Brazil, only in the twentieth century, in the 70s, is the “boom” in children’s literature and gets the status of art. A presente pesquisa tem por objetivo analisar a obra literária Abrindo caminhos (2004), da escritora Ana Maria Machado, verificando como a criança é representada. Especificamente, o foco da pesquisa será observar se sobra apresenta-se sobre os moldes do discurso estético, não utilitário, ou pedagogizante. Do ponto de vista teórico, a obra Abrindo caminhos aponta para uma nova concepção de literatura infantil, ou seja, tem a delicadeza de mostrar a importância de outras leituras clássicas que fazem parte da nossa história literária, tanto nacional quanto universal, por meio da intertextualidade. Com o nascimento da sociedade moderna entre os séculos XVI e XVII, surgiu o status da infância. Até então, as crianças eram vistas como “miniadultos”, sem distinção de sinais culturais. A literatura infantil presta-se para divulgar a ideologia dessa classe burguesa dominante. Desta forma, essa pedagogia didática continua perdurando até os dias de hoje.
