Resumo: The present investigation emerged from the need to open discussions about the mandatory implementation of the Teaching of Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous History and Culture in the elementary schools of public and private networks throughout the national territory, highlighting, in particular, the Ivonice Municipal School Costa Sotero, an institution located around a community remaining quilombo. This investigation analyzes the difficulties faced in the referred school for the implementation of the contents referring to the History of the Afro-descendant and Indigenous peoples in the classes of the 6th to the 9th year of the final series of Basic Education. It also addresses the challenges só that the theme is not only summarized in interdisciplinary projects of folk celebratory dates and adaptation of the Curriculum in order to comply with Law 11.645 / 08. Given this context, it refers to a critical reflection of school institutions in the construction of ethnic-racial and cultural concepts and values. Based on this assumption, it is expected that the proposal described will promote understanding in the face of the magnitude of the problematic and the indispensable role of the school in making possible the historical rescue involving the Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous peoples.
