Resumo: In this work, a research was developed in the area of Chemistry Teaching carried out with a group of 32 students of a classroom of the 3rd grade of the High School of a public school located in São José dos Campos – SP. The objective of this work was to analyze the viability of the use of media, such as an informative newspaper and a video in the teaching of chemistry. The data have been obtained during the classes, by the application of a previous questionnaire to evaluating the main pedagogical resources used by the chemistry teacher. Then it was applied the informative newspaper and exhibition of the film. Finally, it was performed the application of a final questionnaire to verify if these didactic resources were adequate for the learning of chemical concepts associated to an environmental problem. The analysis of the results allowed verifying the potentialities and the challenges of the use of media in the teaching-learning process, enabling students to construct chemical knowledge associated to the water treatment stages and the socioenvironmental importance of the conservation of water resources. It was observed that the majority of the students reported that the video was the most interesting media, although it was also possible to show that the images used in the informational newspaper aroused interest and promoted discussions among the students. We can conclude that media support a more active participation of students in the construction of their knowledge.
