Resumo: This study was to analyze the thematic importance of playfulness in the teaching and learning of children in early childhood education process, because the play allows the child to learn to deal with emotions, balance your stress, from their cultural world, building their individuality. The work was developed with the aid of field research in exploratory, qualitative and bibliographical. We interviewed ten teachers who work in one of Child Education Centers Network municipal teaching New London, aiming at the survey data to identify the conception of playfulness and how this work is developed in the classroom. Given these data, a literature search was performed on websites, journals, articles and books, seeking theoretical foundation, knowledge and understanding of these issues. The results were tabulated, analyzed and presented in tabular form and discussion of the data collected. Working with the playfulness is an indispensable tool for teaching practice and the development of the child instrument, but it is necessary to point out that this practice is done in a limited way and that being so, there is a contradiction presented in the responses of teachers as theory and practice in the classroom of play activities.
