Resumo: The playful child is part of everyday life and through the make-believe, the child creates his own world, imitating their experiences with adults. When inserted in school, change your routine, instructing the teacher to have the sensitivity and mission to be the mediator in the processes of teaching and learning, without excluding the playful. Thus, this monograph aimed to address the importance of play and toy for child development in early childhood education, according to Vygotsky's educational theory. Therefore, we performed a literature search in which they were made survey and analysis of the literature dealing with the issue addressed and discussed the concepts of toy and play and the importance of such education.
