Resumo: This work was developed in order to analyze the current teaching of mathematics and find what their importance to the everyday student, addressing theoretically about the process and methods of teaching mathematics, reporting on how to find your current methodology, the role teacher, to learn mathematics, which teaching methods and what and difficulties in the process of teaching and learning, culminating in the approach to the Everyday mathematics. The research was carried out through the preparation and application of questionnaires to elementary students and professors of mathematics belonging to a state college, located in the District of Graciosa, county of Paranavaí. The questionnaire addressed the importance of mathematics, students' preference for such discipline, its importance and usefulness in everyday life, as his teaching today and the main difficulties presented by the students. Through the analysis of the data collected, it was found that 60 % of the students like the discipline of mathematics, but 67 % of teachers believe that students do not like the same for 75% of the geometry content is harder to learn and 100 % of teachers, fraction and decimal numbers are the contents considered more difficult to teach, and consequently learning by students. Given all the foregoing it is evident that mathematics is a matter of discussion between students, teachers and educational staff, causing divergence between the views and thereby serving as a tool to search for improvements in teaching this discipline.
