At present, the teaching of Geography is going through a remarkable period, in a phase of redefinitions demanded by society in general and by the process of globalization, by the creation of a new school system that allows the formation of full citizens. As future educators, it must be said that it is necessary to prepare our learner; the teaching of Geography must have a perspective committed to citizenship, preparing the learner for life and surpassing the concept of reproducing concepts or being able to perform their activities in the market of job. Due to the vital attribution that the textbook possesses, being one of the most important used by teachers in the teaching of Geography with its students, this instrument became able to influence the formation and knowledge of the subjects. This monograph aims to understand some of the relationships that permeate the teaching of Physical Geography and the questions of the use of textbooks to reach this requirement. A Geografia representa uma área de conhecimento que visa transformar o mundo mais compreensível para aqueles que a estudam, sendo alunos, pesquisadores, professores, etc. A Geografia também é uma ciência que proporciona a sociedade uma visão das relações homem-natureza quanto o espaço, suas transformações em benefício a si próprio e aos demais, possuindo diversas definições essenciais para alcançar este objetivo. Na atualidade, o ensino da Geografia atravessa um período marcante, numa fase de redefinições exigidas pela sociedade em geral e pelo processo de globalização, pela criação de um novo sistema escolar que possibilite a formação de cidadãos plenos. Como futuros educadores, cabe afirmar que é preciso preparar realmente nosso educando, o ensino da Geografia deve ter uma perspectiva comprometida com a cidadania, preparando o educando para a vida e superando a concepção de reproduzir conceitos ou estando aptos para desempenhar suas atividades no mercado de trabalho. Em virtude da atribuição vital que o livro didático possui, sendo um dos mais importantes utilizados pelos professores no ensino da disciplina de Geografia junto a seus alunos, este instrumento se tornou capaz de influenciar na formação e conhecimento dos sujeitos.
