Resumo: In the juncture of the information society, as is known today's society, information is gaining more and more value, acquiring relevant importance in the daily lives of citizens in a proportion never reached. The Brazilian society tends to seek the maturity of democracy, with the most effective participation of the citizen in the actions of the State, especially in what concerns to follow the policies and public actions. Following a worldwide convergence, Brazil, guided by the legislation in force, which deals with the obligation of public bodies and bodies to create and maintain transparency portals, is in the process of structuring a framework that allows citizens greater access to government information. Therefore, for the preparation of this scientific work, the research carried out has an applied nature adopting a qualitative approach, with descriptive objectives, through literature review and documentary analysis. This paper aims to analyze how citizens with the access subsidy the information made available in the Transparency Portal of the municipality of Tangará-SC, can exercise the supervisory function in order to carry out social control. To this end, the legal provisions on transparency that apply to municipal public management were listed, as well as an analysis of the Transparency Portal of this municipality based on the Law on Access to Information. Finally, to help develop the research, a questionnaire was developed and applied with questions related to participatory democracy and access to public information. It is possible to conclude that the proportion of citizens who usually accompany the municipality's Transparency Portal is far from being the half the population. In this way, it is essential to strengthen popular participation in the realization of a democracy capable of cherishing the most essential interests of society. The wide popular participation in the political and administrative life is a form of improvement of the administrative acts and means of surpassing the representative democratic model, replacing it by the participatory democratic model.
