The Brazilian society tends to seek the maturity of democracy, with the most effective participation of the citizen in the actions of the State, especially in what concerns to follow the policies and public actions. Following a worldwide convergence, Brazil, guided by the legislation in force, which deals with the obligation of public bodies and bodies to create and maintain transparency portals, is in the process of structuring a framework that allows citizens greater access to government information. Therefore, for the preparation of this scientific work, the research carried out has an applied nature adopting a qualitative approach, with descriptive objectives, through literature review and documentary analysis. This paper aims to analyze how citizens with the access subsidy the information made available in the Transparency Portal of the municipality of Tangará-SC, can exercise the supervisory function in order to carry out social control. To this end, the legal provisions on transparency that apply to municipal public management were listed, as well as an analysis of the Transparency Portal of this municipality based on the Law on Access to Information. Finally, to help develop the research, a questionnaire was developed and applied with questions related to participatory democracy and access to public information. It is possible to conclude that the proportion of citizens who usually accompany the municipality's Transparency Portal is far from being the half the population. In this way, it is essential to strengthen popular participation in the realization of a democracy capable of cherishing the most essential interests of society. The wide popular participation in the political and administrative life is a form of improvement of the administrative acts and means of surpassing the representative democratic model, replacing it by the participatory democratic model. Na conjuntura da sociedade da informação, como é conhecida a sociedade atual, a informação aufere cada vez mais valor, adquirindo relevante importância no cotidiano dos cidadãos em proporção jamais alcançada. A sociedade brasileira tende buscar a maturidade da democracia, com a participação mais efetiva do cidadão nas ações do Estado, principalmente no que tange acompanhar as políticas e ações públicas. Seguindo uma convergência mundial, o Brasil guiado pela legislação vigente que trata da obrigatoriedade dos órgãos e entes públicos de criar e manter portais de transparência, está em fase de estruturação de uma contextura que possibilite aos cidadãos maior acesso às informações governamentais. Portanto, para a elaboração deste trabalho científico a pesquisa realizada tem natureza aplicada adotando uma abordagem qualitativa, com objetivos descritivos, por meio da revisão de literatura e análise documental. Este trabalho propôs-se analisar como os cidadãos com o subsídio do acesso as informações disponibilizadas no Portal da Transparência do município de Tangará-SC, podem exercer a função fiscalizadora a fim de efetuar o controle social. Para tanto, foram elencadas as disposições legais sobre a transparência que se aplicam à gestão pública municipal, bem como efetuou-se uma análise do Portal da Transparência deste município com base na Lei do Acesso a Informação. E por fim, para auxiliar o desenvolvimento da pesquisa foi elaborado e aplicado um questionário com perguntas relacionadas a democracia participativa e acesso a informações públicas, sendo possível concluir que a proporção de cidadãos que costumam acompanhar o Portal da Transparência do município está longe de ser a metade da população. Desta forma, é imprescindível fortalecer a participação popular para a concretização de uma democracia capaz de prezar pelos interesses mais essenciais para a sociedade.
