Resumo: Bats are surrounded by myths and superstitions, causing society to dislike these animals. The study of environmental perception allows us to identify the way society sees the environment, as well as its interests and beliefs. At school, the environmental perception research is a tool to guide the teacher in order to achieve the best choice of the teaching-learning method. Furthermore, it allows the subjects to be treated in a contextualized way concerning the knowlodge that students bring to the classroom. The purpose of this work was to analyze 100 6th grade elementary school students' perception in relation to bats. It was interviewed 100 students between 11 and 13 years old. The interview was conducted through questions with four closed questions and one open. It was possible to identify that the students have a good knowledge about bats, however a considerable portion still has a misunderstanding about this group, demonstrating that Environmental Education programs are necessary for a better environmental awareness.
