Non-formal education provides different teaching strategies that can be used by teachers of all disciplines, as it is the case of field trips. The data collected in this research describes the importance of field trips in the teachinglearning process, focusing on the Ecological Marathon held in the year 2017 by students of a school in the city of Barueri, São Paulo. The Ecological Marathon aims to raise awareness among students about environmental issues and sustainable development. During the two days of the Marathon, several activities are carried out in the different ecosystems of the Atlantic Forest biome, group dynamics in the Historic Center of São Sebastião – São Paulo, along together with workshops and lectures on recycling, consumerism, water waste and the indiscriminate use of natural resources. Teaching has never been an easy task, as teachers must find ways to spark students’ interest and field trips may be applied in this sense, generating knowledge through new experiences. There is a diversity of field trips that might be integrated into the teaching program of the various disciplines and even more interesting are the multidisciplinary field trips, which makes it possible to work the contents of a great variety of disciplines in conjunction, introducing students to new ways of learning, as it is the case of the Ecological Marathon that is related to the disciplines of science, history, geography and arts, developing in the students the perception of what science is, together with a critical sense about the importance of the conservation of historical heritage as well as the diverse ecosystems, creating this way a wider understanding about the relation between the human being and the environment. |
