Resumo: This study had as a thematic investigate the teacher’s opinions who are working on the Elementary School I about the concepts of scientific divulgation and scientific literacy. For this, we performed a theoretical survey on this discussion and prepared a questionnaire focusing on that theme and applied it to ten teachers from a municipal public school in Martinópolis, a town in the countryside of São Paulo. We can classify this activity as an investigative field research, because of their interpretive-qualitative characteristics evidenced in all stages. Our main objective was to discuss the views of the teachers working in Elementary School I about the concepts of "scientific divulgation " and "scientific literacy”. For this purpose, besides the elaborated questionnaire, we distributed to the teachers participating in the research activity, two collections of books published in Brazil that report this interface between science and the public, they are: the collection "Genius of Science", authored by Luca Novelli, published by Ciranda Cultural and the recent collection "Culture Medium", published by Campinas State University Publishing House. By analyzing the books that make up these collections, we investigated the characteristics used by the teachers in this segment from the Basic Education to classify them into scientific works of divulgation or scientific literacy. During the process of analyzing the results obtained from the questionnaire and the analysis of the offered books, it was possible to perceive some regularities used by teachers for classification / distinction between the scientific “divulgation” and “literacy" terms.
