One solution is to composting and humus production, with potential use as fertilizer on crops. However, most people are unaware of this practice. Found a way to disseminate such knowledge is through children, which show an excellent vehicle to convey the message because they are the ones that alert family and friends about the importance of recycling. Thus, the present study aimed to educate students in the 5th grade of elementary school to recycle organic waste generated at their residence. The present study revealed the importance of working the subject composting, as well as environmental preservation with students from 5th grade of elementary school, since it was found the great diffusion of knowledge imparted during the lecture. It is believed that through this work began several families, and will begin to practice composting in their homes, since the great interest shown by the students, then reaching the objective. It is evident that through the children's awareness that population, it is they who pass on to family, friends and neighbors everything they are taught, and thus it is expected to reach sustainable development. O aumento populacional e o consequente aumento na produção de lixo exigem alternativas viáveis para o seu tratamento e descarte. Uma solução é a compostagem e produção de húmus, com possibilidade de uso do produto resultante como adubo nas produções vegetais. No entanto, muitas pessoas desconhecem essa prática. Uma maneira encontrada para disseminar tal prática é através das crianças, que se mostram excelente veículo para transmitir a mensagem, pois são elas que alertam os familiares e amigos sobre a importância da reciclagem. Desta forma o presente estudo teve como objetivo conscientizar alunos do 5º ano do ensino fundamental a reciclar o resíduo orgânico gerado em sua residência. O presente estudo revelou a importância de se trabalhar o assunto compostagem, assim como preservação ambiental com alunos do 5º ano do ensino fundamental, já que foi constatada a grande difusão do conhecimento repassado durante a palestra. Acredita-se que por meio deste trabalho diversas famílias começaram, e irão começar a praticar compostagem em suas casas, visto o grande interesse demonstrado pelos estudantes, atingindo então o objetivo proposto.
