Resumo: The research on this work had as its theme the importance of school meals, as it is known practice a qualitatively and quantitatively adequate nutrition is essential for proper growth and development of human beings, especially in the first years of life. A questionnaire about school feeding at the Municipal School for Dom Pedro I was applied to obtain data relating to food tastes of students and whether they are healthy or not and whether they are in accordance with the standards of the Brazilian National Food Program (PNAE) and the food pyramid. According to the results, in the teachers opinion the students often have a euphoric behavior at the time of feeding, many do not wash their hands, and the feeding schedules are adequate and attractive. From the data obtained from students , it was observed that most of them consume meat, and about 2 % do not consume any meat , 22 % eat meat once a week, 34 % consume 2-3 times a week and 42 % consume every day , 86% of students like salad and 14 % dislike . All students do like fruits, and 48 % consume between 1 and 3 fruits per day, 40% of the students consume above 3 fruits a week and 12% do not consume fruits per day. It was observed that 4 % of the students consumed beans 3 times a week, 8 % eat beans twice a week, 4 % consume once a week, and 2 % do not eat beans and 82 % eat beans every day. It was noted that 96 % of the students would like to include certain types of foods in the school menus, such as pizza, soda, chocolate, hot dogs and ice cream, among other types of food. It was concluded that these foods suggested by the students, are not healthy and that future strategies should be conducted in order to encourage healthier eating habits. This work is a fundamental science education importance as it contributes to the learning and understanding of food which the school routine can be worked into the classroom, so that students of the sciences have a reference of how to work with themes school feeding.
