It is a national knowledge that Santo Amaro is a city with one of the greatest incidence of heavy metals contamination in the world. This contamination is a result of the environment passive left by the company Plumbum LTDA, which used to perform lead processing to produce lead oxide without any environmental concern, dismissing the toxic wastes on the environment, contaminating the ground and the population. After depositing the slag, full of lead and cadmium, on the ground the contamination occurs on this environment compartment, that is used for many santoamarense families to do their food crops for their subsistence. As a result, we have contaminated grounds and as a consequence, the food contamination. These heavy metals are highly toxic to people, because they do not have any biological function, as a consequence, it can cause severe human health problem as is the situation of children lead poisoning. The objective of this research is, starting with the analysis of the environmental passive generated by the lead and cadmium contamination suffered by Santo Amaro municipality, to show that, from insertion of environmental sanitation actions, it is possible to improve the life quality of the Santo Amaro citizens and promote environmental health.The methodology used was to research existing bibliography about the municipality issue and how it interferes in the qlife quality of Santo Amaro citizens. It was also developed in a ludic, creative and objective way, the causal model for the contamination by these metals. The objective is also the suggestion of actions to be performed to prevent, protect and promote the environmental health of Santo Amaro da Purificação. On this issue already consolidated for many years in the municipality is suggested that the mitigation initiative and likely eradication of this contamination be started from actions of sanitation of food, and one of the most recent studies that presents positive results, that could be one long term solution, to use the phytoremediation to extract the lead and cadmium from the agricultural grounds at Santo Amaro. Among the variety of analyzed species to extract this metals from the ground, the most that presents not only good efficiency extraction results but also a close cycle classified as sustainable technique. This is a specie that, after the necessary phytoextraction period of time can be used as raw material to manufacture biofuel. |
