Resumo: This work has as its theme the treatment of sewage in the city of Alagoinhas focusing on the description of the current situation of Sewage Treatment Plants - STPs in the city, which are administered by the Water and Sewage Autonomous Service - SAAE. It is known that perform the proper treatment of wastewater is of paramount importance to the people and to the environment, because the sewage can cause soil contamination problems, water, proliferate disease-transmitting vectors, as well as causing the degradation of water resources. During the visits the STPs of Alagoinhas county could be seen that the sewage treatment uses simplified systems of low operating costs, which are deployed in neighborhoods. However, the scenario of STPs is divided between the new stations coming from the new housing developments, along with the sets of the Minha Casa Minha Vida, which bring the whole structure to collect and treat wastewater, contributing to improving the quality of the service in city and older units that have deteorização state, thus not efficiently performing processing. Therefore, the realization of a diagnosis and regular evaluation of these structures is essential to maintain the quality of service to the population in order to avoid problems in water resources receptors and meet the standards required by law. The aim of this study was to perform a diagnosis of STPs is to assess how the sewage treatment and consequently the sanitation of the city and thus gather information that may be useful in taking action to improve this service that is essential for the welfare of the population.
