It is known that perform the proper treatment of wastewater is of paramount importance to the people and to the environment, because the sewage can cause soil contamination problems, water, proliferate disease-transmitting vectors, as well as causing the degradation of water resources. During the visits the STPs of Alagoinhas county could be seen that the sewage treatment uses simplified systems of low operating costs, which are deployed in neighborhoods. However, the scenario of STPs is divided between the new stations coming from the new housing developments, along with the sets of the Minha Casa Minha Vida, which bring the whole structure to collect and treat wastewater, contributing to improving the quality of the service in city and older units that have deteorização state, thus not efficiently performing processing. Therefore, the realization of a diagnosis and regular evaluation of these structures is essential to maintain the quality of service to the population in order to avoid problems in water resources receptors and meet the standards required by law. The aim of this study was to perform a diagnosis of STPs is to assess how the sewage treatment and consequently the sanitation of the city and thus gather information that may be useful in taking action to improve this service that is essential for the welfare of the population. Este trabalho tem como temática o tratamento de esgoto na cidade de Alagoinhas com foco na descrição do cenário atual das Estações de Tratamento de Esgoto – ETEs do município, que são administradas pelo Serviço Autônomo de Água e Esgoto – SAAE. Sabe- se que realizar o tratamento adequado do esgoto sanitário é de suma importância para a população e para o meio ambiente, pois os esgotos podem causar problemas de contaminação do solo, da água, proliferar vetores transmissores de doenças, além de causar a degradação de recursos hídricos. Nas visitas as ETEs do município de Alagoinhas pôde-se verificar que o tratamento do esgoto utiliza sistemas simplificados de baixo custo operacional, que são implantados em bairros. No entanto, o cenário das ETEs está dividido entre as novas Estações oriundas dos novos empreendimentos habitacionais, juntamente com os conjuntos do Programa Minha Casa Minha Vida, que trazem toda estrutura para coletar e tratar os esgotos, contribuindo para a melhoria da qualidade desse serviço na cidade, e, as unidades mais antigas que apresentam estado de deteorização, consequentemente, não executando com eficiência o tratamento. Diante disso, a realização de um diagnóstico e uma avaliação periódica dessas estruturas é imprescindível para manter a qualidade do serviço prestado à população a fim de evitar problemas nos recursos hídricos receptores e atender aos padrões exigidos pela legislação.
