For this, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the current sanitation situation with a focus on rural sanitation in Brazil. A questionnaire was also prepared and applied to a sample of local residents, with the objective of ascertaining the degree of access and knowledge of basic sanitation practices. Also, we chose the collection of drinking water samples to evaluate the microbiological quality through the presence of coliforms in the samples, where 100% of the samples had total Coliforms. The data were organized in tables which allowed us to point out a worrying reality in the rural sanitation issues in the locality. This indicates that the practices adopted should be discussed and reviewed as well as the proposal of more efficient measures regarding the sanitation issue for rural populations with a focus on an adequate quality of life and health, as well as environmental aspects of the environment, which must be respected and considered in all human practices. Este trabalho teve como temática a elaboração de um diagnóstico da condição do saneamento na comunidade rural de Linha Botafogo, Itaipulândia/PR. Para tanto, foi realizado um levantamento bibliográfico da situação atual do saneamento com foco no saneamento rural no Brasil. Também foi elaborado e aplicado um questionário a uma amostragem de moradores do local, com o objetivo de averiguar o grau de acesso e conhecimento as práticas de saneamento básico. Ainda, optou-se pela coleta de amostragem de água de consumo para avaliação da qualidade microbiológica através do foco de presença de coliformes nas amostras, onde 100% das amostras apresentaram Coliformes totais. Os dados foram organizados em tabelas as quais permitiram apontar uma realidade preocupante nas questões de saneamento rural na localidade.
