Resumo: This work analyzes the mechanical behavior of concrete with the addition of SAE 1045 steel residue, obtained from the process of manufacturing parts of the metal mechanical industry. The residue was cut to size 35 mm, similar to industrialized short steel fibers, and was added in the volumetric fractions of 0.5 and 1.0% of concrete volume. Seventy cylindrical specimens were molded and used to determine the specific mass of the concrete at hardened state and the axial compression strength and tension strength by diametral compression. The results obtained did not demonstrate advantages in the addition of the metallic residue to the concrete in terms of compressive and tensile strength, having influenced only the post-cracking behavior of the concrete, resulting in a more ductile material.
