The purpose of this article, of practical approach, is to present ideas about information services and products for public university libraries, based on the process of innovation and the demands of digital natives. The objective of the study was to identify information services that this portion of users would like to be made available by libraries, so that they can be used as a space for leisure and entertainment, in which access to information
is a consequence. An exploratory research of a qualitative nature was carried out, using the case study method. The data collection process was performed at the Central Library (BC) of the State University of Londrina (UEL) through a focus group, involving 17 students from several undergraduate courses who use the library at least three times a week. Data analysis provided a better understanding of the students' view of the services provided by the library, considered to be an academically important environment, but not an attractive location. The results show that, even though dissatisfied with infrastructure and environmental aspects, students are satisfied with the service provided by the librarians and the collection of the unit. Based on the answers obtained, this paper presents some ideas for application in information services of university libraries, such as rooms with sound insulation and booths for individual study. Based on the results, it is noticed that there is a need for investment of financial resources to implement these ideas, and consequently, for the library to be considered innovative. |
