The academic performance has as its goal to demonstrate the percent of knowledge assimilated by the students during their academic life. It is the act of executing academic activities, who must be evaluated according to his yield, level of ability and efficiency. There are variables, as absenteeism, that can influence the academics yield. The absenteeism is classified, in multiple cases, by common sense, as simply “skip classes”, but it can be categorized in other forms, as in being physically present in class but not be part of the activities and to not pay attention in the content given by the professor. In this context, this study had as its goal to analyze the correlation between absenteeism and academic performance in the administration and accountancy courses from UTFPR – Pato Branco Campus. This research is exploratory, with quantitative approach, and it fits as a survey. It was used as research collection instrument a quiz elaborated by the authors of this study, gathering 140 valid answers. The results of this study shows that professional factors, fatigue after a day working and health are the main reasons for students to skip class and the fatigue, boredom, social platforms and to do activities from other disciplines are the primary reason to not pay attention or participate in class. The study also shows that students who are used to skip classes more regularly have a smaller yield coefficient, female students, have a higher yield coefficient in average, and the accountancy course also has a higher yield coefficient in average. The favorite ways to replace the ministered content is by getting the content through colleagues, digital media and other means. In this context, the results gathered in this study can be used by the institution to improve the teaching methodologies, and it also can be used as a base to other related studies from other institutions and regions from the country. |
