Resumo: This work had as main theme the discussion about the contribution of the discipline of Chemistry to the promotion of the conscious disposal of cooking oil residues by the population. The main aspects to be considered for the environmentally appropriate disposal of vegetable oil residues generated by the population were highlighted, thus minimizing the impacts generated on the environment: soil pollution, water courses and obstruction of the public sewage system. As a premise, it was adopted that through formal education it is possible to raise people's awareness of the relevance of this subject. This study was carried out using bibliographic research and application of questionnaires to high school students at Escola Professor Moacyr Campos to seek empirical data on the level of knowledge of the target audience on the topic. From the analysis of the responses to the questionnaire sent to the students, teaching didactic methods were selected and applied: audiovisual resources (videos), remote classes using the Centro Mídia São Paulo platform, social network interactions (WhatsApp) and bibliographic research. A new questionnaire was applied to verify the effect obtained after the application of the mentioned didactics. The results obtained demonstrate an increase in the level of awareness of the target audience for the disposal of residual cooking oil generated in their family nucleus.
