Determine the roots of a polynomial function is not always an easy task, there are analytical methods that can be used to determine the roots of specific functions, however, for most polynomial functions there are no analytical methods or the existing method may require a large number of calculations. There are numerical methods that seek an approximation for each root of the polynomial functions in an iterative way, the numerical methods present an approximate solution as much as one expects it to be. In this work, we will present some analytical solutions and approach the numerical methods of bisection, false position, secant and Newton’s numerical method. Such methods will be addressed using electronic spreadsheets, só that Basic Education teachers can use this material with high school students. |
