Resumo: |
Popular science is an important asset to connect scientific knowledge and society. It has been, for centuries, responsible for the informal popularisation of knowledge to all classes with access to either physical or digital media. This work aims to find correlations between science popularisation and the choice for undergraduate Physics degrees, in order to quantitatively support investment directly in popular science or in related research. A questionnaire was delivered through the institutional e-mail of students of undergraduate courses in Physics at public universities in the city of Curitiba, Brazil. Correlations between the data were sought through statistical techniques such as data mining; further comments from students were used as basis for the analysis of the results. We find that scientific dissemination is more determinant in the choice of Physics degrees by older respondents. There is probably a strong influence of Astronomy, frequent reading and family members that culminates in this career choice. |
