This study aims to compare the university model through the academic production of professors teaching in undergraduate programs at a technological university with those at a traditional university. The study is comparative and quantitative. The sample consists of 1,017 undergraduate professors from two universities: the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and the Federal University of Technology - Paraná (UTFPR), Brazil. The research corpus consists of professors’ curricula available on the Lattes Platform considering the period between 2013 and 2017. The identification of curricula to include in the corpus took place using the scriptLattes extraction tool. To analyze the collected data, a knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) process was used, which includes three macro steps: pre-processing of data; data mining; and post-processing of data. The results show that the academic production of undergraduate professors at UFPR is more consistent and qualified than those at UTFPR. Issues related to the period of the study and the consolidation of research can explain the results. We conclude that despite attempts to maintain the ideal of a technological university, UTFPR functions in a very similar manner to the traditional university model. |
