Resumo: The objective of this work is to analyze how the representation of love takes place in Dante Alighieri's 'Canto V' in the book The Divine Comedy, a well known work, canonized, complex and open to numerous interpretations. This reading proposes to verify as it happens the approach of the characters Francesca and Paolo, ascertaining the elements related to the sin of lust present in all the Canto. Here the literary analysis touches on questions that are of social order, characteristic of the time of its writing, which also reflect existential aspects, especially for dealing with love and sin, as well as discuss about tragedy and comedy, which accompanies the title of the work, with the purpose to understanding Dante's critical depth. Thus, we understand that love is represented from the ideals of courtly love that seeks to remove the tone of perversity from the sin of Paolo and Francesca.
