This research developed a descriptive, comparative and bibliographical study of the translation of Marian Keyes’ Anybody Out There (2010), performed by Renato Motta, in order to identify and analyze the representation of elements related to trauma and memory, and feminine issues portrayed by Keyes, as well as to investigate the workings of the human mind when faced with traumatic events, when linked with memory. For such purpose, we employed the works of Translation Studies’ theorists Itamar Even-Zohar (1990), Antoine Berman (2007), Lanzetti, Bessa et al. (2009), and Lawrence Venuti (1998); and in the field of psychology, the theorists Maria Manuela Assunção Moreno e Nelson Ernesto Coelho Junior (2012), Sigmund Freud (2001), and Colin Murray Parkes (1998). It was verified the existence of translation challenges caused by differences between the source culture and the target culture, resulting in ruptures in the signifying chains, as well as challenges provoked by the differences between the source and target languages linguistic systems. |
