Resumo: Obesity prevalence has been increasing in almost all the world. The bariatric surgery is a treatment for severe obesity but it can bring several risks to the patient. In order to assess those risks, health professionals need to access the patient’s complete health history. The ontology technology can assist with this issue but we could not find an ontology that represents the knowledge about bariatric surgery and we had to develop a new domain ontology and semantic rules. However, this domain has characteristics that are not explored in the existing ontology building methods, for example: multidisciplinary teams without a defined hierarchy, the need to unify the scientific and empirical knowledge, and the presence of human factors. Therefore, this research proposes a method to build an ontological method that considers the need to integrate different data sources as well as different types of knowledge coming from specialties different between them, although they have a unique domain context. The method evaluation step was done through a case study in the bariatric surgery domain in order to assist the decision-making process of multidisciplinary health teams, regarding the bariatric surgery recommendation and risk evaluation. This case study was done with pacient data from UNIMED do Estado do Paraná with the appropriate approval from the Ethical Committee.
