Resumo: This paper investigates the interrelations between word and nature in the poetic work of the Portuguese poet Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen (1919-2004). For this purpose, the paper analyzes Andresen’s poems that display a contemplative attitude in relation to the beings and elements of nature, with the aim of assimilating how this characteristic is responsible for proposing the breakdown of the hierarchy between human and natural through the similarity between word and nature. As theoretical foundation, the authors of literary studies and language studies who question the technicist model of progress adopted from modernity on are related, as well as authors who defend an ecocritical perspective, in order to rethink the relationships between the human and the non-human that permeate contemporaneity.
