Resumo: The competitive market makes the manufacturing units seek to use quality programs to optimize their processes and increase the quality of their products and services. The study was carried out in a unit of the electrometalmechanical sector that had gone through unsuccessful attempts to implement the 5S quality program. Thus, the objective was to plan and implement the 5S quality program in the unit. An implementation model divided into 6 phases was developed and applied, namely: initial diagnosis and sensitization of strategic people; implementation planning and structuring; dissemination of the program with emphasis on the senses of use, ordering and identification; implantation of the first 3 senses; planning and implementation of the senses of health and self-discipline; analysis of results, elaboration of improvement actions and consolidation of the 5S. To evaluate the results, qualitative information collected through the observation of the environment was observed and a quantitative method was developed to compose the evaluation. As a result, there was a reduction in internal conflicts, greater security provided to employees, clean and identified environments, employees showing greater participation and engagement, increased concern for health and safety at work and improved organizational climate. The present study enables this and other manufacturing units to use the method developed here to help achieve continuous improvement.
