Resumo: Over the years, great challenges not yet overcome can be perceived in the field of Science and Biology Teaching, more precisely in the subfield of Socio-Environmental teaching. This subfield has witnessed, in its contents and methodology, an almost exclusive concern towards the student’s university entrance exams (Vestibular) preparation and Work Market to the detriment of the main goal of the National Education Law Policy (Law number 9394/96), the National Curricular Parameters (PCNs –Portuguese initials)and the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC –Portuguese initials) of building up a sense of citizenship. In this regard, it’s necessary to employ an alternative approach to teaching how to develop the students' reflexive and critical thinking. In face of these assumptions, this paperwork has the general goal of drawing up a didactic method to broach the subject of the ecosystem and socio-environmental impacts for the final phase of primary school based on the environmental and historical background of the city of Santa Helena/PR. For this purpose, at first, a gathering of information from scientific articles and data available on the municipality website about the history of the city’s colonization, its tourist points, and the local ecosystem was carriedout. Thereafter, a theoretical study of the environmental impacts resulting from human activities on this ecosystem, mainly linked to the building of the reservoir of the Itaipu hydroelectric dam has been prepared. Eventually, a didactic method of ecosystems and environmental impacts was elaborated as a basis to the work of the science teacher in the final phase of primary school. This didactic method was built up by the methodological procedure recommended to PEDAGOGIC STAGES (MOMENTOS PEDAGÓGICOS DELIZOICOV, 1982; 1983) and developed for use in four weeks (twelvescience class hours) in the areas of electrical energy, biodiversity and socio-environmental impacts
