Resumo: This work consists of a translation from Italian to Portuguese of the book Inquietante Crociera, by Maria Ivana Trevisani Bach , and its analysis from an ecocritical perspective. The title in Portuguese, Vagalumes de Cherenkov, rescues the first Italian edition’s title, Lucciole di Cherenkov. Classified by the author herself as an “ecoromance”, the book narrates a cruise trip that begins in the port of Savona, in Italy. The journey begins with a predicted and well-defined trajectory that, however, becomes adrift along the narrative. The ship is a clear metaphor for planet Earth, humanity’s common vessel. As the global environmental crisis worsens, it is increasingly relevant to provide the Portuguese -speaking public with this work of literary and ecocritical quality. In the theoretical approach, aspects of translation are highlighted as well as justified some of the main translation’s options. An ecocritical analysis of the book follows, with a main focus on human connections to each other and to the world.
