Resumo: The displacement of the production of clothing to countries with cost advantages undermined the competitiveness of the Brazilian industry, and made it impossible for local producers. Due to global competition - producers who do not have cost advantages must incorporate differentiation or niche strategies, based on local dynamics that can be reversed in long-term competitive differentials. Given this context, the objective of this dissertation is to describe the relationship between fashion and the binomial of sustainability and territoriality. For that, an applied, descriptive and bibliographical research was carried out, in which bibliometric research was used to select the portfolio of theoretical contributions. For the collection, organization and treatment of the research data, the Content Analysis technique was used to define categories of analysis. As a result of the relationships between the categories of analysis, it was possible to conclude that - as long as they depend on the quantitative increase in production - the fashion production systems will be incompatible with sustainable local development. In order to be able to meet social and environmental demands, it is necessary that new technological arrangements be guided by the concept of social quality. In local sustainable development, territoriality can be used as a differential basis not only for product design, but also for the identification of niches that emerge from local dynamics. Territoriality and sustainability are dimensions that join fashion as production systems align with the slow fashion philosophy that - by promoting localism, authenticity and equity in labor relations - transforms the structural foundations of the fashion business, making the cycles of production and consumption compatible with the times of people and the environment.
