Resumo: The recycling of industrial processed residues is a practice that has been given much more attention and has been gradually inserted in many companies. The law that imputes the producer of its effluents and residues demands planning and caution to the methodologies applied in that destination, in a way to guarantee security beyond economic and environment viability. The present work was developed with a case study of the residue originated in the effluents treatment process of a high capacity brewery, located in Lages,SC, with the objective to elaborate a proposal of a benefic use of that mud. Therefore, we performed a bibliographic research about the recycling options, an information gathering, the analysis to characterize the mud generated, the evaluation about the assessment methodology currently used in the treatment and destination of mud and, finally, the calculation of the residue generation by Water Treatment Station and the Brewery Effluents Treatment Station, resulted in a total theoretical of 577.000Kg. These research procedures shown the possibility of inclusion of this residue treatment reality in the Sanitation Research Program-PROSAB idea. The calculations generation of sludge, added to the generation of wastes manufacturing process indicate the viability of investment in composting. Composting adds value to the residue, facilitates negotiation with concerned sectors, makes the medium and long term, economically viable investment and increases in the short term, the environmental benefits. The studies in this course conclusion work on the characteristic of the residue, the quantification of the amount of generation and the area to be conducted beneficiation thereof, constitute the preliminary planning stage of the recycling program and demonstrated the possibility of practical implementation program within the reality of the manufacturing unit.
